As an active Board of Advisor for the YMCA of Greater Boston's Overnight Camping Services Branch, I see what camp does to benefit kids and families. As you know I am passionate about camp - Sandy Island has transformed my life and my family's life for the better. I couldn't imagine not having had the opportunity to have camp in my life. This year, WITH YOUR HELP, I hope to raise funds to send four deserving kids to one of our amazing kids camps: North Wooods Overnight Camp for Boys or Pleasant Valley Overnight Camp for Girls for a two-week session.
YMCA camp programs offer a fun and unique experience that gives children and teens the opportunity to meet new friends, explore nature, discover new interests, be physically active and create memories that last a lifetime. The experience teaches essential leadership and social skills and helps youth develop confidence and independence.
Research shows that without access to out-of-school physical and learning activities, kids fall behind academically and gain weight twice as fast during summer than the school year. Summer camp gives youth peer and adult mentoring relationships that have positive youth development effects, build resiliency, and encourage healthy decision making. Most importantly, summer camp is an unforgettable experience that will give each camper memories (and camp traditions) that will last a lifetime.
I hope that you too can see why camp is so important - especially for those kids who would not have the opportunity to attend without your gift. Know that 100% of every dollar donated to the YMCA’s Overnight Camp (and my fundraising page) supports camper scholarships.
Every gift makes a difference. Please join me and give today. Thank you! - Jeremy
