If you only donate once a year, think about donating to North Woods.
My name is Amadeus Collard, the North Woods LIT director and this summer will be my 7th year at camp. You may ask yourself why am I participating in a fundraiser for my summer camp? Well, I strongly believe in the benefits of a (super awesome) camp experience and the positive impact it can have on youths.
I started to attend summer camps in France when I was 4 years-old with my twin sister. We were raised by a hardworking single mother and she didn't want us to spend any of our school breaks watching TV at home. We started with day camps, but quickly moved on to overnight camps. By the age of 7, I was already attending multiple 2-weeks camps every summer.
When I turned 15, I decided that I wanted to cross the Atlantics and live a true American summer camp experience. We found North Woods and I was being shipped there for a month with the objective to learn English. It was like nothing I had experienced before (and I went to a LOT of summer camps before North Woods), but after a month there, I knew I wouldn't go back to any other camp. I had found a welcoming community and a brotherhood that I wanted to be a part of. I wouldn't be the person I am today if it wasn't for North Woods Camp.
Since 2015, I have been working in our Teen Leadership program (Leaders-In-Training) and, every year, I witness the incredible growth of my team. In the very short amount of time they spend at camp, they learn:
- Leadership skills (growth mindset, communication, conflict-resolution, planning, mentorship, etc)
- Social skills (empathy, listening, emotional intelligence, etc)
- Life skills (teach a class, build a fire, use woodworking tools, etc)
- Teamwork skills (through many teambuilding challenges)
Any amount makes a difference in the life of a deserving child. Please consider making a tax-deductible donation to Overnight Camp today in support of North Woods Overnight Camp. 100% of every dollar donated our annual campaign ensures that the camp experience is open to all.
