Hello, my name is Rob Pearce, and this summer will be my 2nd year as Waterfront Director for North Woods. I have been lucky enough to be able to work at North Woods for many years - this will be my 19th summer!
Those of you who know me, know that I am a trained Primary (Elementary) school teacher and love to see children achieve their best and challenging themselves. The US summer camp experience provides that for the boys who are lucky enough to attend.
My first summer at North Woods was after my first year at University. I was 18, and my experience over the 9 weeks of that summer was pivotal in helping me to develop into the person I am today and the teacher I later became.
Even as an adult - a counsellors supporting, teaching and leading the young men of camp - I also enjoyed the benefits of learning from being part of this well-established and fantastic community, and could see why it had gon from strength to strength Andy flourished Fromm its initial summer in 1928.
in her past two decades that I have been involved with North Woods, I have seen camp grow and change to ensure that the boys who attend have the best summer experience they can have and are supported by well trained and caring staff.
Being fed from the Y of Greater Boston, North Woods sees a wide range of young men come to camp for many different reasons. The experiences they gain in a two week session can’t be life-changing. The boys develop into young men (or at least begin their journey to), learn how to be more independent, live closely alongside others, make new friends - many of whichever become lifelong buddies - and gain an appreciation of being unplugged and offline in the great outdoors.
Some of these boys would not be able to access camp and experience everything’s North Woods has to offer without scholarships.
WE ASKING YOU TO SUPPORT 144 - 144 is the number for camps address, but also the number of CAMPERS we want to raise support for. We want to make an IMPACT - and you can help! Together we can make a difference in the lives of thousands of young people and families who will turn to camp for encouragement and support.
Together we can achieve so much more. Every gift makes a difference. Please support North Woods Campers by joining us in making a gift today.
Although summer camp is culturally a US idea, I believe that wherever children are in the world, they all deserve the chance to have a positive experience at least once in their life time. Could your money help a boy, 9 - 15, from inner city Boston to have that this summer?
Any donations you are able to make will go a long way to support the work of the Y to enable young men to attend camp and have a safe, secure and fun place to be for at least two weeks of the summer.
"Camp has made me into a caring, generous, and genuine person. It has shaped my character and I love it more than anything else in my life. I hope it continues to leave a lasting imprint for many other individuals." - Dan, North Woods Camper for 8 years.
"Camp has changed my life" and "Camp has helped me become the person I was meant to be" are themes that resonate with all of our campers. North Woods Overnight Camp has been building on tradition and serving boys since 1918, and in that over 100+ years, North Woods has transformed the lives of THOUSANDS.
I HOPE that you believe that ANY boy deserves the opportunity to explore and enjoy the camp experience. Your donation matters because it will ensure that ANY child regardless of ability to pay, can participate at North Woods.
